In May of 2012 Bolton Brothers Ltd unveiled their new Materials Recycling Facility (MRF). This facility offers 42,000 square feet of covered warehouse where all materials that can be recycled are put through a process of pre-sorting, picking, grading and baling. In each month over 5000 tonnes of mixed recyclables are processed through this state of the art facility, including paper, cardboard, plastics, wood and metal. Once the paper and cardboard is recovered from the sorting process, the different grades are then transported to UK mills or exported overseas to be used as a raw material in paper and board manufacturing. Types of plastic recovered from the MRF are mixed bottles, LDPE films and mixed rigid plastics. These are then sent on to be reground and reprocessed into new plastic products such as coat hangers, drainage pipe, polyester garments and packaging.
